Please don’t give your love to me
because love’s a cunning thief
with faults like man’s beliefs
that left your heart emptied.
Please don’t give your love to me
because love’s a migrant leaf
that lands and quickly leaves
like a pheasant in the streets.
Please don’t give your love to me
because love’s abruptly brief
like a caged bird thus released
from pain he finds relief.
